The Week: October 19, 2012
I am nearly over my cold, but still pouting at the fact that I missed out on meeting my new little nephew, and enjoying some nice California sunshine. So while I warm myself with a cup of tea and plan my next trip down the coast, you enjoy these links.
(I won’t need shorts in California in November, will I? I hate shorts.)

I am ridiculously honored to be featured on Nylon Lifestyle this week. The format of the interview was incredibly fun, and I got to talk about Tina Fey, frosting, and Rand.
—————
Ick. My pal Philip actually found cupcakes that I won’t eat: they’re STD-inspired.
—————
Really intrigued by the controversial and dark work of Will Coles. Totally fascinating.
—————
Pretty sure this is the first horseman of the apocalypse: sexy Sesame Street character costumes. If you need me, I’ll be hiding under my bed, weeping.
—————
From pocket-sized wookies to mustachioed monsters, I want pretty much everything in this Etsy store.
—————
This SNL clip featuring undecided voters is worth a giggle or two.
—————
This is so darn cool: a third-grader in Omaha dresses up as a different historical figure (or as someone just as important in her life) every single day.
—————
Bodyform, a UK company that sells women’s hygiene products (translation: maxi pads), hilariously responds to a man who voices his displeasure at learning that periods are not all fun and horseback-riding.
—————
How Yelp is planning on using public shaming to stop fraudulent reviews. FAKE REVIEWS ON YELP?! PUT THEM IN THE STOCKS.
—————
As someone who’s a big believer in social mobility, this article about how family status will impact your descendants for generations is a little jarring. (The good news: the studies focus on Europe. Presumably the U.S. us a little more upwardly mobile).
—————
A fascinating question: if all the U.S. presidents were alive and running for office today, who would win?
—————
I want to give a special shout-out to my friend Deanna. This week, her youngest went through surgery (don’t worry – everyone came through with flying colors). Deanna has yet to write about the experience, but her treatise on ginormous tables is enjoyable reading in the meantime.

Phew. That’s it for me this week. I should be entirely mended and ready to write on Monday. Talk to you then.
