The Week: July 28, 2011
Let’s ignore the fact that July is almost over, shall we? Or that earlier today I accidentally put down 2008 as the current year. Time is passing, and my brain clearly has no desire to keep up. Rather than preoccupy myself with the minutes that keep flying by, I chose to squander my precious time on the internet.
Here’s what I found interesting this week.

It’s a truly strange and wonderful thing to find that occasionally people care what I have to say. I was honored to be interviewed for not one, but two blogs this week. The first was courtesy of my friend Jessica, who featured me on her blog The Present Perfect (if you are looking for gift ideas, really of any kind, check out her site). And the second was courtesy of the lovely Andrea of I’m Way Too Busy (a domain name that might as well my mantra). On her blog, she documents things that fascinate and inspire her (don’t ask me how I made the cut, but thank you, Andrea!).

Indeed, the years have been kind. And there can be only one (or was that some other guy?) Check out Keanu Reeves is Immortal.
—————
That’s funny. It certainly sounds like you live in Portland.

The shadow knows what lurks in the hearts and minds of us all. And it’s actually quite sweet.

What happens when curse words meet elegant typography? You get a fascinating, if not entirely suitable for work, blog. Check out Beautiful Swear Words. (Courtesy of my pal Philip, who’s never uttered a swear in his life.)

My friend Liz alerted me to this next link, saying she thought I’d enjoy the random coolness of it. And she was right. A yogurt commercial featuring glow sticks and techo.
—————
Finding this photo essay of The Ruins of Detroit to be completely fascinating. As odd as it sounds, I want to go to there.
—————
My friend Jason describes what it’s like taking his 3-year-old to the regular matinee (versus the kiddie matinee). Spoiler: it does not end well. But it is funny.
—————
And on the other end of the chromosomal spectrum, Wendi Aarons writers an open letter to Mr. James Thatcher, brand manager at Proctor and Gamble regarding a message she received on her menstrual pad. (I’m not exactly sure when “feminine hygiene” products merged with fortune cookies, but hilarity ensued soon after.)
—————
I suppose it’s obvious that someone had to make the NASA space suits. But it’s still amazing to see.
—————
An absolutely heart-breaking tale of a woman whose home was destroyed at the hands of someone who stayed with her through AirBnB (apparently the company is doing everything they can to help her in the aftermath.) Truly tragic, but my spidey senses are tingling: could this be the work of an angry hotelier out to ruin Airbnb? Stay tuned.

I, too, always doubted that paper could beat rock.
—————
I’ve had “Where Do You Go To My Lovely?” by Peter Sarstedt stuck in my head all week. It reminds me of the end of summer.
—————
That’s all for this week. I’m actually home this weekend, and have the pleasure of hanging out with some out of town guests. And yes, there will be cupcakes. See you Monday!
