A few months ago, I had the pleasure of being on Dan Moyle’s podcast, The Storytellers Network. I’m always a bit hesitant to go on podcasts. I love chatting with people, but my relationship with the spoken word isn’t quite what it is with the written one. I tend to ramble unless I have a…

It’s December, which means that you’ve probably read all of the daring thinkpieces about how Love, Actually is the greatest holiday movie, ever, despite its many, many flaws, or the other, more daring thinkpieces about how Love, Actually, is the worst holiday movie, ever, because of the aforementioned flaws. And I shouldn’t be adding gasoline…

Seeing Genoa for The First Time Again.

It is with some embarrassment that I tell you that I hated Genoa the first time I visited there, a decade and a lifetime ago. In my book, the only mention I make of the seaside city – the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, the location where Marco Polo was imprisoned for a year (because Italy…

  • Ugh, hard same, gems. Hard same.

Watching this sweet show made lockdown a little easier. #stevenuniverse #stevenuniversefuture
  • It is the apex of privilege that I can walk around my neighborhood, face covered, and know that no one will think twice about it. Trying to be more aware of that privilege, and how I can use it for good. But even talking about it feels self-congratulatory. #irunwithmaud
  • When Alison Roman says to put her slow roasted salmon on a bagel, you do it. This was just lovely.
  • This is the team up I've been waiting for. ❤️❤️❤️
  • Had a video podcast call today. Host joked that the dress code was formal. Challenge accepted. (I've never had the chance to wear this dress out.)
  • Make Kouign Amann, they said. It'll be easy, they said. You definitely won't set off two smoke alarms, they said. #quarantinebaking #kouignamann #instadesserts
  • Would I go so far as to call myself a baking genius? Yes. Yes, I would. 😅

My family is from the south, so we would call this pizza bianca ("white pizza) - and nobody really made it at home. But I became obsessed with it when we went to Genoa, and Rand and I seek out whenever we're in Liguria. We may have canceled our Italy trip, but I'll be damned if I'm not eating all the carbs. #saminnosrat #focaccia #saltacidfatheat
  • Before, and after. We're both sort of surprised by how well this home haircut turned out. Apparently I know how to do a gorgeous fade? I will not be exploring this talent further. #superstressful #tookforever #quarantinehaircut
  • No, I'm not making the damn bed.
  • Took a walk today, because, well, what else is there to do? Apparently a lot of folks had the same idea, because keeping my six feet of distance from everyone was tricky (I walked down the center of a lot of side streets). And while the sidewalks were full, the stores were empty and locked up - and it's so hard to see that and not know what the long term impact of this will be. A good reminder to support places if you can, keep your distance, wash your hands, buy gift certificates, tip your delivery driver, don't take more than what you need, and remember: we're all in this together.

All Over The Place
