The Week: June 21, 2013
Happy Solstice, everyone! I hope you are celebrating by eating goats and procreating and worshiping the sun (confession: I don’t know how people celebrate the solstice).
I’ve got an old friend in town (she’s running the Seattle half-marathon this weekend), so we’re going to enjoy the longest day of the year by eating everything in sight and then talking about middle school. That works, right?

I was interviewed by BBC Travel and they – gasp – actually printed my answers. I know. I’m shocked, too.

James Gandolfini died this week. Matt Zoller Seitz’s essay about the actor is touching and beautiful. He was not one of Hollywood’s elite. He was one of us.

Mad Men Screenshots With Things Drawn on Them is pretty self explanatory. And also pretty awesome. (My current fave.)

Handmade guinea pig armor is up for sale on eBay.

While I’m not sure it’s the most tasteful of features, Slate‘s “Skyjacker of the Day” (taken from Brendan Koerner’s blog) is totally engrossing. I really enjoyed this one about Raffaele Minichiello (bonus: no one died.)

This week, Paula Deen made headlines after a racist and sexual harassment lawsuit was brought up against her by a former employee. Deen’s response to the issue has been less than stellar – Salon takes a look at why she hasn’t even apologized.

Pilot Karim Nafatni’s photography (often taken from the cockpit) of the many cities he’s visited is simply stunning.

Every wonder exactly how The Simpsons’ home is laid out? Curious as to how big Carrie’s closet was in Sex And The City? Artist Inaki Aliste Lizzarralde – who creates floor plans of homes from popular TV shows – helps answer those burning questions.

I might need to make these little baked doughnuts, immediately.

Just in case you need it, this little comic from Cyanide and Happiness offers some nice perspective.

See you Monday, folks!
