The Week: Friday, Nov. 18, 2011
I’ve spent the last week at home. It’s been all kinds of fabulous, really. I got to do laundry. And sit on my own couch. And sleep in my own bed, never once waking up to wonder where the heck I was.
Fabulous, I tell you. Of course, it’s only temporary, but I’m going to enjoy it. And have another slice of cake, which I baked myself in my very own kitchen.
While I do that, take a gander at the week that was …

Seattle’s own Octogenarian activist Dorli Rainey was pepper sprayed by police at an Occupy Seattle protest. In an interview with Keith Olbermanm, she talks about her experience with wit and grace. To quote The Stranger, Ms. Rainey really is a civic treasure.

Famous album covers, recreated with kittens. It’s just as awesome as it sounds.

Another Twilight movie is coming out this weekend (the tagline is “Forever is just the beginning,” which is as delightfully nonsensical as a quote from a Lewis Carroll book). To celebrate, the good folks at i09 pulled together the 25 most disturbing Twilight-related items of 2011. I was both mesmerized and horrified, and I haven’t even read the “books.”

I’m constantly trying to eat healthy (when I’m not fixated on cake). Thankfully, Congress has made that much easier for me, by claiming that pizza is, in fact, a vegetable. Which means that two nights ago, I had nothing put veggies for dinner! Whoo-hoo! I hope they start counting pie as a fruit.

Benetton’s new “Un-Hate” ad campaign has a lot of folks seeing red. The photoshopped images of political leaders locking lips (including Barack Obama, Kim Jong-Il, Hugo Chavez, and Pope Benedict, among others) have prompted threats of lawsuits. It’s fascinating to watch, even if it doesn’t make me want to spend $160 on an orange cardigan. (via Salon)

I’m willing to chip in for gas, but NOT WHEN I’M FLYING SOMEWHERE. Passengers traveling from India to Britain were forced to pay to refuel the plane they were on. (via @MySkyMom)

I’m also willing to pony up some cash to help fund a book of erotic fiction inspired by James Franco. What? I don’t have the time to write one myself.

The lesson in this video applies to business, blogging, and life in general: Don’t punish everyone for one person’s mistake. Plus, it will make you smile.

This literally left me with tears in my eyes – a mom decides to celebrate her 31st birthday with 31 random acts of kindness. (via another awesome mom, @KristiBug)

Artist Hugleikur Dagssun’s stick figure comics have given me a case of the giggles. In particular this one, which holds true in my tea-drinking family.

A super huge congratulations to Deanna of Traveling Monkeys, who had a friggin baby today! You are amazing, Deanna.

That’s it for me this week, folks. I’ll be blogging next Monday through Wednesday, then taking a long weekend off for Thanksgiving.
