The Week in Travel: March 21, 2010

I am in a great mood this morning. A stupidly-happy, wonderful mood. Because yesterday, Rand came home. And if you read Thursday’s post about my sleepless nights without my hubby, you know what this means – that last night, I slept EIGHT AND A HALF FULL HOURS. It was awesome. So, TGIF. And TGRH (Thank Goodness Rand’s Home). And now that I’m no longer so sleep deprived as to be leaving perishable foods in the foyer (which I only did, like, twice), let’s talk about the week that was …

London recently unveiled their incredibly creepy and bizarre 2012 Olympic Mascots. They are horrible and don’t look cuddly (and the video is awful and makes no sense. You must watch it). Seriously, could they not take a lesson from the Vancouver Olympic mascot, Quatchi? He was an ear-muff wearing, hockey-playing French Canadian Sasquatch with a penchant for photography. The whole thing was so cute, my face hurt from excessive smiling.

Not only did this week bring the first guest post ever on the Everywhereist.com (with some great tips on traveling to theme parks with your child from the always-brilliant Christine!), but it also marked my first time being a guest blogger. Check out my tips for hiking alone, safely, on SoloFriendly.com. And thanks to the always-awesome Gray Cargill for the opportunity!

Apparently there was some confusion somewhere along the line. A very lovely gentleman linked to my site! Whoo-hoo! Unfortunately, he thinks that it is maintained by my good friend Cindy Krum. Who is apparently married to Rand.

Interestingly, I have not been to a single one of the dessert meccas listed in the New York Times article about Seattle sweet shops. My goal? Remedy this situation. And visit all of them. IN A SINGLE DAY. (Okay, fine. My glucose levels and desire to fit into a bathing suit at some point in the next decade probably won’t allow this to happen. But a girl can dream, right?)

My friend Lisa just sent me the second coolest hat ever from London. And now, a moment of silence for the hat which it has come to replace, lost those many weeks ago on the streets on New York …

Dah, darling.

Dah, darling.

I should start writing for some e-cards. Because they just released this card … which bears a striking similarity to something I said two weeks ago (check out the fourth paragraph).

Stefon’s NYC travel tips on Saturday Night Live make me laugh so hard I cry – even after repeated viewings. Take a look at last week’s sketch while I try and keep it together.

I love that my hubby is suspicious of our friends’ new baby.

And speaking of … two words: Baby Hippo.

Sigh. So much awesome. And I have a feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good, good night. Have a great weekend.
